Kindle
I am excited about The Kindle (less excited about the $400 price tag, but that's neither here nor there.)
I am a bibliophile. I read constantly, but taking books with me everywhere is heavy and a hassle. I also have a tendency to leave them places, which makes me VERY angry. Once I finish a book, if I am away from my house or away from a store I am basically stuck with nothing to read. This leaves me reading things like a 2 year old Spin magazine at the Ford house or a 5 year old Reader's Digest at the doctor's office. Is Kindle the answer? Maybe.
While I am excited about Kindle, and I do hope it takes off, it also kind of saddens me. I can't help but make the connection of Kindle - Kindling - Fire - Burning books - Fahrenheit 451 - end of books as we know them now. There is nothing better in the world than going to a bookstore, smelling the paper and ink, and purchasing a great book to curl up with. Will reading be as great as it is without this experience? Would Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows have felt as great without the heft of all 700-plus pages?
I am anticipating the first reviews. It seems amazon did not let any out into the tech world for the bloggers to review. Will I buy one now? Not likely. Later, maybe, let's see how the story unfolds.
